"id:mythologies of(un)consciousness"
ART EXHIBITION
Alexandros Maganiotis
Curated by Eva Kekou
From 14.06.2014 to 29.06.2014
Opening saturday 14.06.2014 15:30
The solo exhibition of Alexandros Maganiotis entitled "id: Mythologies of (un)consciousness" groups together for the first time three series of recent work:
the Alphabet
A disturbance of Memory and
Goethe’s Werther.
Maganiotis’s work intertwines with the real and the imaginary, the structure and its degradation combining in the same frame realistic and surreal elements, thus creating bipolar relationships and strong contrasts, simultaneously using humour and irony in his works.
In this exhibition, a major question is raised; whether identity as a cultural structure is synthesized through the endless, imaginary or not, engagements and interpretations of the conscious and the subconscious.
In his work, Maganiotis's link with architecture as a science is evident. Beginning with the structured form he embarks on a process of deconstructed forms (from the world around him) that can be clearly traced. Through paradox and imagery, and through the communion of antithetical images, he re-negotiates the nowadays dominant model of the “conventional” and challenges what is considered as “establishment”.
